ELBC DAY May 2025
Greetings Parents,
Thursday, May 22, and Friday, May 23, are the final two days of school and will be observed as Extending Learning Beyond the Classroom (ELBC) days. All Pre-K–12 students will remain at home and engage in asynchronous (independent) learning during this time.
Since student Chromebooks have been collected, teachers will provide alternative assignments to support continued learning and offer opportunities to improve grades. While all ELBC assignments are “hold harmless” (students will not be penalized for non-submission), they allow students, especially those with averages below 70, to strengthen their academic standing. Students with averages above 70 may also complete assignments to improve their final grade.
Elementary Students (Pre-K–5)
Teachers will send home learning packets and/or assignments using materials already introduced during the year, including:
- Reading: My Book (Vol. 1 & 2), Writer’s Notebook, Take-Home Decodable Readers (K-1), Know It, Show It
- Math: K-2 Into Math Practice and Homework Journal and 3-5 enVision Student Workbook
- Science:K-5 Science ELBC End of Year Activities
- Social Studies: Provide students with the current Studies Weekly magazine for independent practice
- Pre-K: Access PreKAtHomeDailyActivities_GettingReadyforKindergarten.pdf
Secondary Students (Grades 6–12):
Teachers will assign activities for optional enrichment for students. Examples may include:
- ELA & Other Subjects: an optional writing assignment where students reflect on their learning in the class from this year and set subsequent goals for next year based upon that reflection.
- Math: an optional but relevant real-world word problem that requires application to students' lives.
- Science: An optional activity or quick-write where students reflect upon their learning related to the environment, biology, chemistry, or the applicable content area, and apply it to their own lives.
- Social Studies: An optional activity reflecting on the learning in the applicable course. Activities or short-response submissions may relate to civic engagement or financial literacy.
Assignments can be submitted through Canvas or email. If students no longer have their school devices, they can submit them using a smartphone or another available device.
Thank you for your continued support. We wish you and your family a wonderful summer!
